Murrieta 9/11 Observance Ceremony

9/11 Observance Ceremony

The City of Murrieta will pay tribute to those who passed on September 11, 2001.

The first 9/11 Observance Ceremony will take place at 7:15pm at Town Square Park. Meant as a time of reflection and remembrance, the city’s ceremony will include comments from the Murrieta police and fire chiefs. Alongside this, the police honor guard will present the colors, and a bagpiper will play.

Around the park, over 2,000 luminary bags will be lit, with one for each person who perished in the New York terrorist attack. This will provide an environment for the city’s population to reflect and condole for those who lost their lives. There will be a book where community members can write their thoughts and expressions if they so wish. After the ceremony, the book will be kept in the Heritage Room of the Murrieta Public Library.

On September 8th, the Murrieta City Council will discuss the formation of a 9/11 Memorial Committee with the plan to construct a memorial statue to Town Square Park.
