Critter Camp

A hands-on learning experience at the Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley

The Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley is hosting its annual “Critter Camp” – a week-long, interactive, learning experience for students entering the second, third, fourth and fifth grades. The camp will be held June 15th – 19th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Through this hands-on camp, children will learn the importance of kindness and compassion toward all living creatures.

During Critter Camp, the campers will experience the wonderful world of bugs, marsupials, therapy and service animals, the difference between wild and tame animals, and “make & take” animal art activities all while “camping” in actual tents provided by Sports Chalet, Redlands.

Some of the guest presenters include: Pet Partners therapy & service dogs, mini horses, a rabbit, and a cat; Cheryl, from Wonders of Wildlife, with an opossum, snake, and pot belly pig; Angie Sheer, the founder of Equus Medendi, with Bentley, a 12 year old Gray Quarter Horse; and Nikki, a two year old miniature donkey! Additionally, the Outreach Team from the Department of Entomology, University of California, Riverside will teach us about becoming entomologists and discovering the wonderful world of bugs by bringing both live and preserved insects and arthropods for campers to observe. Pearle Ludwig, a retired teacher from Belvedere Elementary School, has created a special book about birds that the children will be able to illustrate. Darlene Douthit, local artist and cartoonist, will teach the students how to draw various animals.

The fee to attend Critter Camp for the week is just $25 per student. Limited financial assistance is available. To register your child for Critter Camp visit, call 909-380-7844 or stop by the HSSBV (374 W Orange Show Road, San Bernardino).
